1 Now it came about on the eighth day that Moses called Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel; 2 and he said to Aaron, “Take for yourself a calf, a bull, as a sin offering and a ram as a burnt offering, both without defect, and offer them before the Lord. 3 Then you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘Take a male goat as a sin offering, and a calf and a lamb, both one year old, without defect, as a burnt offering, 4 and an ox and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before the Lord, and a grain offering mixed with oil; for today the Lord will appear to you.’” 5 So they took what Moses had commanded to the front of the tent of meeting, and the whole congregation came near and stood before the Lord. 6 And Moses said, “This is the thing which the Lord has commanded you to do, so that the glory of the Lord may appear to you.” 7 Moses then said to Aaron, “Come near to the altar and offer your sin offering and your burnt offering, so that you may make atonement for yourself and for the people; then make the offering for the people, so that you may make atonement for them, just as the Lord has commanded.”
8 So Aaron came near to the altar and slaughtered the calf of the sin offering which was for himself. 9 Aaron’s sons then presented the blood to him; and he dipped his finger in the blood and put some on the horns of the altar, and poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. 10 The fat and the kidneys and the lobe of the liver of the sin offering he then offered up in smoke on the altar, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 11 The flesh and the hide, however, he burned with fire outside the camp.
12 Then he slaughtered the burnt offering; and Aaron’s sons brought the blood to him, and he sprinkled it around on the altar. 13 They brought the burnt offering to him in pieces, with the head, and he offered them up in smoke on the altar. 14 He also washed the entrails and the legs, and offered them up in smoke with the burnt offering on the altar.
15 Then he presented the people’s offering, and took the goat of the sin offering which was for the people, and slaughtered it and offered it for sin, like the first. 16 He also presented the burnt offering, and offered it according to the ordinance. 17 Next he presented the grain offering, and filled his hand with some of it and offered it up in smoke on the altar, besides the burnt offering of the morning.
18 Then he slaughtered the ox and the ram, the sacrifice of peace offerings which was for the people; and Aaron’s sons brought the blood to him, and he sprinkled it around on the altar. 19 As for the portions of fat from the ox and from the ram, the fat tail, the fat covering, the kidneys, and the lobe of the liver, 20 they now placed the portions of fat on the breasts; and he offered them up in smoke on the altar. 21 But the breasts and the right thigh Aaron presented as a wave offering before the Lord, just as Moses had commanded.
22 Then Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and blessed them, and he stepped down after making the sin offering, the burnt offering, and the peace offerings. 23 And Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting. When they came out and blessed the people, the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. 24 Then fire went out from the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the portions of fat on the altar; and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell face downward.
1 Why do You stand far away, Lord?
Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?
2 In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the needy;
Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.
3 For the wicked boasts of his soul’s desire,
And the greedy person curses and shows disrespect to the Lord.
4 The wicked, in his haughtiness, does not seek Him.
There is no God in all his schemes.
5 His ways succeed at all times;
Yet Your judgments are on high, out of his sight;
As for all his enemies, he snorts at them.
6 He says to himself, “I will not be moved;
Throughout the generations I will not be in adversity.”
7 His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and oppression;
Under his tongue is harm and injustice.
8 He sits in the lurking places of the villages;
He kills the innocent in the secret places;
His eyes surreptitiously watch for the unfortunate.
9 He lurks in secret like a lion in his lair;
He lurks to catch the needy;
He catches the needy when he pulls him into his net.
10 Then he crushes the needy one, who cowers;
And unfortunate people fall by his mighty power.
11 He says to himself, “God has forgotten;
He has hidden His face; He will never see it.”
12 Arise, Lord; God, lift up Your hand.
Do not forget the humble.
13 Why has the wicked treated God disrespectfully?
He has said to himself, “You will not require an account.”
14 You have seen it, for You have looked at harm and provocation to take it into Your hand.
The unfortunate commits himself to You;
You have been the helper of the orphan.
15 Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer,
Seek out his wickedness until You find none.
16 The Lord is King forever and ever;
Nations have perished from His land.
17 Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble;
You will strengthen their heart, You will make Your ear attentive
18 To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed,
So that mankind, which is of the earth, will no longer cause terror.
1 Do not be envious of evil people,
Nor desire to be with them;
2 For their minds plot violence,
And their lips talk of trouble.
3 By wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
4 And by knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.
5 A wise man is strong,
And a person of knowledge increases power.
6 For by wise guidance you will wage war,
And in an abundance of counselors there is victory.
7 Wisdom is too exalted for a fool,
He does not open his mouth at the gate.
8 One who plans to do evil,
People will call a schemer.
9 The devising of foolishness is sin,
And the scoffer is an abomination to humanity.
10 If you show yourself lacking courage on the day of distress,
Your strength is meager.
11 Rescue those who are being taken away to death,
And those who are staggering to the slaughter, Oh hold them back!
12 If you say, “See, we did not know this,”
Does He who weighs the hearts not consider it?
And does He who watches over your soul not know it?
And will He not repay a person according to his work?
13 My son, eat honey, for it is good;
Yes, the honey from the comb is sweet to your taste;
14 Know that wisdom is the same for your soul;
If you find it, then there will be a future,
And your hope will not be cut off.
15 Do not lie in ambush, you wicked person, against the home of the righteous;
Do not destroy his resting place;
16 For a righteous person falls seven times and rises again,
But the wicked stumble in time of disaster.
17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
And do not let your heart rejoice when he stumbles,
18 Otherwise, the Lord will see and be displeased,
And turn His anger away from him.
19 Do not get upset because of evildoers
Or be envious of the wicked;
20 For there will be no future for the evil person;
The lamp of the wicked will be put out.
21 My son, fear the Lord and the king;
Do not get involved with those of high rank,
22 For their disaster will rise suddenly,
And who knows the ruin that can come from both of them?
23 These also are sayings of the wise:
To show partiality in judgment is not good.
24 One who says to the wicked, “You are righteous,”
Peoples will curse him, nations will scold him;
25 But for those who rebuke the wicked there will be delight,
And a good blessing will come upon them.
26 One who gives a right answer
Kisses the lips.
27 Prepare your work outside,
And make it ready for yourself in the field;
Afterward, then, build your house.
28 Do not be a witness against your neighbor for no reason,
And do not deceive with your lips.
29 Do not say, “I shall do the same to him as he has done to me;
I will repay the person according to his work.”
30 I passed by the field of a lazy one,
And by the vineyard of a person lacking sense,
31 And behold, it was completely overgrown with weeds;
Its surface was covered with weeds,
And its stone wall was broken down.
32 When I saw, I reflected upon it;
I looked, and received instruction.
33 “A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to rest,”
34 Then your poverty will come like a drifter,
And your need like an armed man.
1 Therefore, when we could no longer endure it, we thought it best to be left behind, alone at Athens, 2 and we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you for the benefit of your faith, 3 so that no one would be disturbed by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we have been destined for this. 4 For even when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to suffer affliction; and so it happened, as you know. 5 For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I also sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor would be for nothing.
6 But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always think kindly of us, longing to see us just as we also long to see you, 7 for this reason, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and affliction we were comforted about you through your faith; 8 for now we really live, if you stand firm in the Lord. 9 For what thanks can we give to God for you in return for all the joy with which we rejoice because of you before our God, 10 as we keep praying most earnestly night and day that we may see your faces, and may complete what is lacking in your faith?
11 Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you; 12 and may the Lord cause you to increase and overflow in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you; 13 so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints.
