1 John 1:5–7 (NASB95) — 5 This is the message we have heard
from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1. Step into the light.
John 3:19–21 (NLT) — 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.
Sin ~ Shame ~ Secrets
- Sin is stepping out of the light and into the shadows. When we get there, our minds are darkened and
confused, and we no longer know truth.
- Shame is the natural result from living in sin.
- Secrets block the light from shining on every area of our lives.
- Stepping into the light is all about exposure, transparency, and honesty.
2. Live in the light.
Ephesians 5:8–9 (NLT) — 8 For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! 9 For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.
3. Shine His light.
Matthew 5:14–16 (NLT) — 14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
- CT Studd - “The light that shines farthest shines brightest nearest home.”
- In a world of darkness, we are called to be like our Father. We are light. Let’s shine brightly for the world to see.
- Don’t hide your light under the shadow of sin, shame, and the fear of man; lift it high for the world to see. May there be no one in your sphere of influence who can say, “The light didn’t shine on me.”
