I. FAITH IS BASED UPON ACCESS.

• "Now even the first covenant had REGULATIONS for worship" (Hebrews 9:1 ESV).
  • Regulations: Everything about faith and access to God is about legal rights. God has protocol, ordinance, and regulations for approaching Him.
  • The "Holiest of All" was INACCESSIBLE. Christ's work was to tear down that veil and give us ALL ACCESS to the glory and the presence of God. There are three parts to "all access":

II. Access is BY the BLOOD.

• The shedding of blood (verses 11-14)
  • You cannot get a revelation of "access" without "blood."
  • God requires blood to atone for sin: "The life of every creature is its blood" (Leviticus 17:14 ESV).
• Blood gives access.
  • The high priest entered into the Holiest of All by the blood of a bull. He would die without it.
  • Christ entered into the Holy Place in heaven with His own precious blood (verses 11-12).
• Blood cleanses the conscience (Hebrews 9:14).
  • "How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God" (Hebrews 9:14 ESV).
  • Conscience tells us what we ARE, what I think of myself. The blood tells me WHAT GOD THINKS OF ME.

III. Access is IN the WILL.

• The covenant and the will
  • Someone has to die for a will to be in effect (verses 16-17). Christ ratified His WILL by His death.
• You have an INHERITANCE (v. 15).
  • "Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance" (Hebrews 9:15 ESV).
  • FAITH is based upon "access" and "inheritance."
  • In the old covenant, the blood sprinkled the BOOK. God's Word, God's promises, are covered in the blood of Jesus.

IV. Access TO the THRONE

• PAST: Christ APPEARED FOR US (verse 26).
  • We are free from guilt, guilt feelings, and shame. SIN IS FOREVER DEFEATED.
• PRESENT: Christ APPEARS FOR US (verse 24).
  • Christ passed right into the true Holy of Holies and can behold the face of God Himself. He sits at His right hand on our behalf.
• FUTURE: Christ WILL APPEAR FOR US (verse 28).
  • Christ will appear A SECOND TIME "to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him" (verse 28).
