Colts and Singers

Luke 19:35-40 NLT - 35 So they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on. 36 As he rode along, the crowds spread out their garments on the road ahead of him. 37 When he reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen. 38 "Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in highest heaven!" 39 But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said, "Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like that!" 40 He replied, "If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!"

God-focused, not us-focused

Psalm 123:2 ESV - Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he has mercy upon us.

We must know HIS identity, before we can know OUR identity.

Psalm 24:7-10 NLT - 7 Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. 8 Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty; the Lord, invincible in battle. 9 Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. 10 Who is the King of glory? The Lord of Heaven's Armies-he is the King of glory.

1. Who is the King of Glory?

I believe the following to be the three most important identifiers of who God is to humanity.

He is CREATOR - Alpha.

  • Isaiah 43:7 NLT - Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them.
  • Revelation 4:11 NLT - You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.
  • Psalm 100:3 NLT - Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

He is JUDGE - Omega.

  • Romans 14:12 NLT - Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.

He is SAVIOR - Messiah.

  • 1 John 4:14 NLT - Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

2. When we know who He is, we know who we are.

We are "COLTS."

We will find satisfaction only from serving Him.

  • Psalm 40:7-8 NLT - 7 Then I said, "Look, I have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures: 8 I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart."
  • John 4:34 NLT - Then Jesus explained: "My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work."

To be the colt means to come under the will of God.

  • Rebellion means being autonomous, independent.
  • Lucifer was living in the house but acting independently.
  • When we see God as CREATOR and JUDGE, we will see ourselves as His SERVANTS.

To be the colt means to give your life to carrying Jesus.

  • Carry His name everywhere you go.
  • Carry His presence everywhere you go.
  • Be His ambassador and represent Him.

We are "SINGERS."

  • We are announcers of who He is.
  • We are like a mirror that reflects who He really is.
  • When you know Him as SAVIOR, you become a WORSHIPER.
