Recap: Last week we talked about stepping out, stepping around, and stepping into the promises of God. Daring faith will always cause us to step out. Though it may feel as if we are stepping out on a wire or on water, we are nonetheless called to step out on His Word.

Text: Genesis 13:8–17 NLT

Separation always follows stepping out. God said, “Let there be light,” and then He separated the light from the darkness.

Four reasons you must separate from “Lot”:

• Lot brings CHAOS and STRIFE into your life.
• Lot is BLINDING you from your next step. He keeps you confused.
• Lot keeps you from hearing God’s voice.
• Lot is a FREELOADER, a sucker. He looks prosperous, but he is draining you.

Who is Lot?

1. Lot is a PERSON.

• He is inherently selfish.
• He is inherently carnal.
• He is comfortable and convenient.
• He is someone you feel responsible for and to.
• 1 Corinthians 5:6–7 NLT: “6 Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough? 7 Get rid of the old ‘yeast’ by removing this wicked person from among you. Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast, which is what you really are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.”
• 2 Timothy 2:22 NLT: “Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.”

2. Lot is a LIFESTYLE.

• 2 Corinthians 7:1 NLT: “Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.”
• Hebrews 12:1 NLT: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”
• Be done with known sin. Stop just thinking about quitting sin, but actually do it. Move on from it. Shed it like a dirty garment.

3. Lot is a BELIEF.

• 1 Kings 18:21 NASB: “Elijah came near to all the people and said, ‘How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.’ But the people did not answer him a word.”
• In what area of life are you wavering? Sometimes your wavering is keeping you from what God has for you. You must decide!
• Your bad beliefs could be holding you back.
• Get in God’s Word, and separate from bad beliefs.

4. Lot is BAGGAGE.

• You must part from unforgiveness.
• You must part from shame.
• You must part from soul ties and ghosts of the past.
