1. The mark of RELATIONSHIP
- John 13:34-35 NLT - 34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.
- When Christianity is followed radically, the primary result will be love.
Jesus' relationship with us can be defined by love.
- The three relationships of every disciple
- Love toward God
- Love toward our brother
- Love toward the world
2. The mark of PRIORITY
- Luke 14:26 NLT - If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else-your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters-yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.
- Whatever is first in your life orders the rest.
- More than people
- More than possessions
- More than pursuits
3. The mark of OBEDIENCE
- John 8:31-32 NLT - 31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
- The top ten teachings of Jesus Christ, in order of frequency:
- God
- Heaven
- Hell
- Making disciples
- His own divine identity
- Prayer
- Faith
- Love
- His heavenly Father
- The importance of keeping His Word by acting upon it
4. The mark of RESULTS
- John 15:8 NLT - When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.
- Fruit is synonymous with results.
- True disciples of Jesus will see tangible results because of their abiding relationship with Christ.
- Results of repentance - changed
- Results of obeying Jesus' commands - solid
- Results of the Spirit's presence - effective
- Results of love - new disciples
