Four Needs of Every Soul

Luke 4:31–35 (NLT) - 31 Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day. 32 There, too, the people were amazed at his teaching, for he spoke with authority. 33 Once when he was in the synagogue, a man possessed by a demon-an evil spirit-began shouting at Jesus, 34 "Go away! Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!" 35 Jesus cut him short. "Be quiet! Come out of the man," he ordered. At that, the demon threw the man to the floor as the crowd watched; then it came out of him without hurting him further.

Luke 4:40 (NLT) - 40 As the sun went down that evening, people throughout the village brought sick family members to Jesus. No matter what their diseases were, the touch of his hand healed every one.

Luke 5:8–11 (NLT) - 8 When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, "Oh, Lord, please leave me-I'm too much of a sinner to be around you." 9 For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. 10 His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, "Don't be afraid! From now on you'll be fishing for people!" 11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.

Four Needs of Every Soul

1. We need TRUTH.

  • We need to know truth.
    • John 8:31–32 (NLT) - 31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
  • We need to walk in truth.
    • 1 John 1:8–9 (NLT) - 8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

2. We need FREEDOM.

  • Satan is the enslaver, the binder, the harsh taskmaster.
  • 1 John 3:8 (NASB) - 8 The one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.

3. We need HEALING.

  • Psalm 107:20 (NLT) - 20 He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.

4. We need PURPOSE.

  • The rich young ruler couldn't do what Peter was able to do-same offer, different answer.
