The Journey of Legacy:

1. LIVE DIFFERENT

  1. Genesis 12:1-3 (NLT) 1 The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. 2 I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”
  2. Every legacy has a point of departure.

2. SEE FURTHER

  1. Genesis 15:4-6 (NLT) 4 Then the LORD said to him, “No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.” 5 Then the LORD took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” 6 And Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith.
  2. Two ways to think: inside the tent; or under the sky.
  3. Legacy begins RIGHT NOW. Don’t be discouraged by where you are starting.
  4. Stop living only for right now. Live today with 100 years in view.

3. DECLARE VALUES

  1. Genesis 18:18-19 (NLT) 18 “For Abraham will certainly become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him. 19 I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.”
  2. Legacy is not money
  3. Legacy is the values.
  4. Values must be DEFINED.
  5. IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN, 100 YEARS FROM NOW, WHAT DO YOU HOPE THEY WILL VALUE?
    1. God
    2. Family
    3. Kingdom Impact

4. SOW SEEDS

  1. Genesis 22:2-3 (NLT) 2 “Take your son, your only son--yes, Isaac, whom you love so much--and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” 3 The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about.
  2. Legacy is eventually tested by sacrifice + obedience.
  3. Isaac = the promise placed back on the altar.
  4. GOD WORKS WITH PEOPLE TO ACCOMPLISH HIS PURPOSE.
  5. God’s faithfulness meets our faithfulness:
    1. Faithfulness on your part
      1. Walk the walk - Integrity.
      2. Hold the values
      3. Until the day you die, live it out.
    2. Faithfulness on His part
      1. Once you entrust it into His hands, the real hard work belongs to Him.
      2. Abraham dies trusting God to carry it to the finish line.
      3. Jewish nation: legacy through values, not money.
