1 Kings 19:19 (NLT) - So Elijah went and found Elisha son of Shaphat plowing a field. There were twelve teams of oxen in the field, and Elisha was plowing with the twelfth team. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak across his shoulders and then walked away.
2 Kings 2:12-13 (NLT) - 12 Elisha saw it and cried out, "My father! My father! I see the chariots and charioteers of Israel!" And as they disappeared from sight, Elisha tore his clothes in distress. 13 Elisha picked up Elijah's cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River.
Four Things to Hand Down:
1. A life of PRINCIPLE
- "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything" (Gordon Eadie).
- Joshua 24:15 (NLT) - But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.
2. A life of PASSION
- With your PRINCIPLES, choose PASSION over PASSIVITY.
- AHAB is the antithesis of ELIJAH. He always let Jezebel lead.
3. A life of PRAYER
- James 5:16-18 (NASB) - 16 The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. 18 Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.
4. A life of PERSEVERANCE
- 2 Corinthians 4:1 (NLT) - Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way, we never give up.
