Isaiah 61:1 (NLT) — 1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted (Shabar) and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.

Psalm 147:2–3 (NASB95) — 2 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel. 3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

Five reasons Jesus Heals:

1. It's God's Will

  1. This one line is the reason many don’t believe in healing.
  2. John 5:19–20 (NLT) — 19 So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing. In fact, the Father will show him how to do even greater works than healing this man. Then you will truly be astonished.
  3. God made our bodies to restore
  4. God made nature to replenish
  5. Healing is his DESIGN and DESIRE
  6. Several thoughts:
    1. He doesn’t want me healed - Jesus healed all.
    2. He doesn’t have the power to heal me - Jesus healed all.
    3. He permits my healing - Doesn’t show compassion.
    4. He desires to heal me! - This is the truth.
  7. This is GOOD GOOD NEWS!

2. It's Paid For

  1. What gave Jesus the right to heal us? THE CROSS
  2. Isaiah 53:5 (NASB95) — 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.

3. It's His Compassion

  1. JESUS IS COMPASSIONATE
    1. The shepherd the left the 99
    2. The good samaritan
    3. When He saw the masses of sick people coming to Him (Matthew 14:14)
    4. When He saw the masses of hungry people (Mark 8:2)
    5. When He saw the blind (Matthew 9:27)
    6. When He saw the grieving widow (Luke 7:13)
    7. The leper (Mark 1:41)
  2. Mark 1:41 (NLT) — 41 Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!”
  3. Here is the question: Is He less compassionate since He ascended into heaven?

4. It Brings Glory to God.

  1. In John 9 - Jesus heals for the glory of God.
  2. In John 11 - Jesus heals Lazurus for the glory of God.
  3. John 11:40 (NLT) — 40 Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?”
  4. Three things healing does:
    1. Healing attracts great multitudes.
    2. Healing causes people to look to God for their own needs.
    3. Healing causes people to praise God!

5. It sets an EXAMPLE for us.

  1. HE FULLY ANTICIPATED THAT WE WOULD DO THE SAME WORKS
  2. John 14:12 (NLT) — 12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.
  3. Mark 16:17–18 (NLT) — 17 These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. 18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”
  4. When you pray for people, remember:
    1. God WILLS it
    2. God PAID for it
    3. God LOVES them
    4. God will get GLORY from this.
    5. God wanted ME TO DO THIS!
