“Let us HOLD FAST the confession (profession, take a vow of, make a legal statement of, declare openly, testify, make a public statement) of our hope WITHOUT WAVERING, for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23, ESV)
Three Principles of Mountain-Moving Words
1. HEAR the Word.
- “Faith comes from hearing and hearing through the (specific) Word of Christ” (Romans 10:17)
- The Holy Spirit wrote the words in the Bible. He knows the exact Scripture that He can move from your mind to your heart.
- Until you hear that Word, there is no faith.
2. SPEAK the Word.
- “Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if YOU HAVE FAITH like a grain of mustard seed, YOU WILL SAY to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:19-20)
- Jesus spoke to trees and they died, storms and they stopped, dead people and they lived. Now, He is telling His disciples, “You have faith just like I do (mustard seed). You can speak to a mountain (or any impossible circumstance) and IT WILL MOVE.”
- Your words are your declaration. You either agree with God or the enemy.
- David declared words of faith and confidence to Goliath and then did the impossible. “THIS DAY the Lord will deliver you into my hands and I will strike your head from you… All the earth will know that there is a God in Israel… The battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hand.” (1 Samuel 17)
- Joshua spoke to the sun and then did the impossible. “Sun, stand still at Gibeon…there has never been a day before or since when the Lord listened to the voice of a man.” (Joshua 10:12)
- The twelve spies all saw the same Promised Land. Ten spoke out their fear and unbelief, but two spoke out their faith. “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it…” (Joshua 13:30)
- Paul was preaching at Lystra where there was a man who had been crippled his entire life. “He LISTENED to Paul speaking. And Paul, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be made well, SAID in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he sprang up and began walking.” (Acts 14:8-10)
3. HOLD FAST to the Word.
- “Let us HOLD FAST the confession of our hope without WAVERING, for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23)
- What if you believe in your heart and declare with your mouth and nothing seems to change? You continue to HOLD FAST to your profession.
- “Hold fast” comes from a word to "pin down" with the foot.
- The tongue is the hardest thing to control; never come out of agreement with God’s Word in your words.
- The more your ears hear it, the more your faith grows. You become “persuaded, convinced” of the promise of God. Your mouth remains in agreement with God’s promise. This is called “endurance”:
- “Therefore do not THROW AWAY YOUR CONFIDENCE, which has a great reward. For you have need of ENDURANCE, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he SHRINKS BACK, my soul has no pleasure in him.” (Hebrews 10:35-38)
4. Application & Summary
- Get a Word.
- Speak the Word.
- Debt, be removed.
- Depression, be gone.
- Fear, leave my mind.
- Division, be removed.
- Disease, be healed.
- Hold Fast.
- Don’t let go of the promise you have in your heart. Speak it every day until you become totally persuaded, convinced, and “sure.”
