I Am Called

Pastor Joel Stockstill
Sunday, May 27, 2018

"Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God" (Ephesians 4:1 NLT).

1. Called to CHARACTER (verse 2)

  • Character is the foundation of calling.
  • Character begins with HUMILITY.
  • Character is expressed through the fruit of the Spirit.
  • Character is driven by love.

2. Called to MINISTRY (verse 11)

  • Your gift is the primary tool of your calling.
  • The five gifts make up the full DNA of Jesus' ministry. There is no ministry gift outside of these five ministry gifts!

Let's identify which gift is dominant in your life.

1. Apostolic: leadership, entrepreneurial, pioneering

  • Who: business owner, supervisor, department head, C-level
  • What: awaken people to their God-given potential
  • Why: action

2. Prophetic: sensitive, spiritual, creative

  • Who: intercessor, worship team, blogger
  • What: reveal God's heart to people everywhere they go
  • Why: presence

3. Evangelistic: bold, vocal, adventurous

  • Who: salesman, advocate, social media
  • What: storytellers who make Jesus famous
  • Why: gospel

4. Pastoral: loving, caring, relational

  • Who: counselor, customer service, government representative
  • What: bring healing, create family
  • Why: people

5. Teacher: curious, truth-centered, knowledgeable

  • Who: teacher, academic, professor, Bible teacher
  • What: make the truth and knowledge about God accessible to all
  • Why: truth

How can you leverage your gift to advance the kingdom? How can you develop your gift? Where does your gift fit into the vision of Bethany?

3. Called to maturity (verses 13–15)

  • Maturity simply means looking like Christ.
  • Maturity means stability and CONSISTENCY.
  • Maturity is measured by love and not legalism!
