1 Corinthians 9:19–27 NLT — 19 Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ. 20 When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law. 21 When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ. 22 When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings. 24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Paul had a very clear agenda: the kingdom of God.

  • Paul was an intellectual in Athens.
  • Paul was a Pharisee in the courtroom.
  • Paul was a Roman citizen to the Roman captain.

What’s your agenda? What’s the secret passion of your heart?

If you want to have a kingdom agenda:

1. IDENTIFY your current agenda.

  1. Three questions that can narrow it down:
    1. What do you want to talk about the most?
    2. What do you think about the most?
    3. What do you pay the most money for?

Psalm 139:23–24 NLT — 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

2. CHANGE your agenda.

  1. This is a process we call “pulling down idols.”
    1. Many times, the thing that is our agenda is what we worship.
  2. Intentionally elevate a NEW value.
    1. Change what you IMAGINE.
    2. Change what you INGEST.
    3. Change where you INVEST.
      1. The place where you invest your time, energy, and resources is what you will be passionate about.

Matthew 6:19–21 NLT — 19 Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

3. ADVANCE a kingdom agenda.

  1. Paul’s wisdom
    1. “I have become a slave to all people”—Go into every environment ready to serve.
    2. “Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone”—Get into people’s lives. Infiltrate their world.
    3. “I do everything to spread the good news and share in its blessing.”
    4. “All athletes are disciplined in their training”—Discipline yourself to become a kingdom player.
    5. “Play to win”—Find your greatest joy and fulfillment in seeing the gospel advanced.
    6. “Run with purpose in every step”—Be strategic about everything you are doing so you can advance the kingdom of God.

Here’s the biggest secret of it all: your identity determines your agenda.

  • When you see yourself as a third-party referee or ambassador, you will begin to live out your agenda.
