Thy Kingdom Come

One of the greatest questions every human has to face is, WHO AM I?

  • Who am I in my family?
  • Who am I among my peers?
  • Who am I as I look in the mirror?
  • Who am I in society?

WHO AM I IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD?

  • Am I less than someone else?
  • What is my standing?
  • THE DISCIPLES WERE OBSESSED WITH THIS QUESTION.
  • Mark 9:33–35 NLT, emphasis added — 33 After they arrived at Capernaum and settled in a house, Jesus asked his disciples, “What were you discussing out on the road?” 34 But they didn’t answer, because they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest. 35 He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”

1 Peter 2:5, 9 NLT, emphasis added — 5 And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. . . . 9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession.

1. Everyone in the kingdom is royal.

  1. The Bible says that we are ROYAL.
  2. When you see yourself as royal:
    1. You realize you have authority.
    2. You realize you have dignity.
    3. You realize that you will never lack.
  3. With the identity of royal blood, you have a responsibility to carry yourself worthy of the position. You aren’t trying to earn royalty—you have already been made royal.

2. Everyone in the kingdom will inherit.

  1. If you found out that you were in the wealthiest family in the world and were called a joint heir, would you walk around depressed every day?
  2. Luke 12:31–32 NLT, emphasis added — 31 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. 32 So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.

3. Everyone in the kingdom is a priest.

  1. Revelation 5:10 NASB — “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.”
  2. This means that you have access to the holy throne room of heaven; you can offer up worship that is pleasing to God.
  3. Once you identify yourself as a priest, you have to ask yourself, “Am I fulfilling that role on a daily basis?”

4. Everyone in the kingdom is part of the family.

  1. There are not different castes in heaven; there is only one.
  2. Matthew 23:8 NLT — Don’t let anyone call you “Rabbi,” for you have only one teacher, and all of you are equal as brothers and sisters.
  3. You are not better than someone else in the kingdom. We are all family here.

Jesus said that some would be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven or be given more in heaven. What’s that about?

FOMO:

  • FAITHFULNESS — When we serve Christ with faith in our hearts and don’t grow weary, there is a reward.
  • OBEDIENCE — When we obey His commands, we please Him and there will be a reward.
  • MANAGEMENT — When we steward well what He has entrusted to us, there will be a reward.
  • OTHERS — When we give our lives away for others, there will be a reward.
