Isaiah 9:6–7 NLT — 6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!

Jesus Christ is the personification of peace.

  • He is personally at peace.
  • He is able to restore peace to nature.
  • He is able to restore peace from man to God.
  • He is able to restore peace from man to man.
  • He is able to restore peace in the inner heart of every person.

In His kingdom, peace is experienced in four meaningful ways.

1. Vertical Peace

  1. Romans 5:1 NLT — Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
  2. No GUILT, SHAME, RUNNING, HIDING, OR BLAMING
    1. These are all signs of adversity with God. When you are truly at peace with God, you can walk with Him in the cool of the day.

Your peace wit h God is based upon your acceptance of His grace and mercy toward you.

2. Internal peace

  1. Philippians 4:6–7 NLT — 6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
  2. No SLEEPLESS, RESTLESS, OR ANXIOUS hearts
    1. These are all signs of the earthly kingdom.
  3. Empty versus full
    1. Eastern religions brag about their ability to bring you to peace. Their way of doing that is for you to empty yourself completely and be at peace.
    2. Our kingdom says, fill yourself with the presence of the King and you will be at peace.

3. Horizontal peace

  1. Ephesians 2:14–16 NLT — 14 For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. 15 He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. 16 Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death.
  2. No WAR,STRIFE, ENVY, JEALOUSY, OR MURDER
    1. In our kingdom, we forgive.
    2. In our kingdom, we have grace.
    3. In our kingdom, we have patience.
  3. Our peace produces harmonious and joyous relationships with all men.

4. Ordered peace

  1. Jesus left a trail of tangible peace.
  2. No DISORDER, CONFUSION, OR CHAOS
  3. Jesus folded His clothes, and the maniac was clothed and sane. Kingdom peace will help you bring order into your chaos.
  4. Part of shalom is the ability to be well ordered.

So let’s make this practical. If you don’t have peace in your life . . .

  1. APPLY THE PRINCE OF PEACE TO THAT SITUATION—SEE HIM WALKING ON THE WATER.
    • In your internal battles of depression, restlessness, or anxiety, put Him there.
    • In your relationships that are estranged and divided, put Him there.
    • In your shame and guilt, put Him there.
    • In your life's circumstances, put Him there.
  2. PUT EVERYTHING UNDER THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PRINCE OF PEACE.
  3. SEND UP TO HIM EVERYTHING THAT CAUSES A LACK OF SHALOM IN YOUR LIFE.
