John 2:19–21 (NLT) — “19 ‘All right,’ Jesus replied. ‘Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.’ 20 ‘What!’ they exclaimed. ‘It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?’ 21 But when Jesus said ‘this temple,’ he meant his own body.”
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (NLT) — “19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”
Ignorant Christianity is not realizing the value of what God has placed within you. Many Christians live in a place of ignorance about the true nature of their Christianity. God is in you!
Four Ways to Cultivate Your Relationship with God’s Spirit:
1. Faith
- Biblical Reference
- Hebrews 11:6 (NLT) — “6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”
- Life Application
- Everything spiritual is accessed by faith.
- Doubt holds us captive from receiving anything God wants to give us.
2. Honor
- Biblical Reference
- Ephesians 4:30 (NLT) — “30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:19 (NLT) — “19 Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.”
- Life Application
- When someone of worth walks into the room, you should stand. When you stand, it says that they are worthy to interrupt your conversation and demand your attention. In the same way, you should live in a state of honoring that shows God is present within you.
- Our life choices will reflect our honor for His presence in our lives.
3. Stillness
- Biblical Reference
- Isaiah 30:15 (NLT) — “15 This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: ‘Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.’”
- Isaiah 30:21 (NLT) — “21 Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should go,’ whether to the right or to the left.”
- Life Application
- You cannot afford to live your life without still moments with God. As with Elijah, He is heard in the still small voice that only comes when you are quiet.
4. Dependence
- Biblical Reference
- John 5:19 (NLT) — “19 So Jesus explained, ‘I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.’”
- Life Application
- Learn to depend on the precious Holy Spirit to lead you, guide you, strengthen you, and comfort you.
