Deuteronomy 8:11-18 (NASB) - 11 Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes which I am commanding you today; 12 otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built good houses and lived in them, 13 and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold multiply, and all that you have multiplies, 14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 15 He led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water; He brought water for you out of the rock of flint. 16 In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end. 17 Otherwise, you may say in your heart, "My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth." 18 But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

Wealth in the Western world: quantity of material possessions

True wealth defined: well-being; the tools God entrusts us with to accomplish His call on our lives

Wealth can be seen in these categories:

  • Time
  • Talent
  • Treasure
  • Relationships
  • Influence

Two ETERNAL LAWS About Wealth

1. The law of SOURCE -God's part

God OWNS it all.

1 Chronicles 29:11-12 (NLT) - 11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. 12 Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.

God will PROVIDE all of your needs.

Philippians 4:19 (NLT) - And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

God will provide SUFFICIENTLY.

  • Do you really believe God will always make sure you have enough to be content? Do you know how much is enough for you to be content? Put a number on it and watch how God will reward you; then you will have no excuse not to follow God's call on your life!
  • 1 Timothy 6:6-8 (NLT) - 6 Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. 7 After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can't take anything with us when we leave it. 8 So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

God wants to entrust you with enduring WEALTH.

Proverbs 8:18-21 (NLT) - 18 I have riches and honor, as well as enduring wealth and justice. 19 My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold, my wages better than sterling silver! 20 I walk in righteousness, in paths of justice. 21 Those who love me inherit wealth. I will fill their treasuries.

2. The law of COVENANT-your part

Genesis 28:20-22 (NLT) - 20 Then Jacob made this vow: "If God will indeed be with me and protect me on this journey, and if he will provide me with food and clothing, 21 and if I return safely to my father's home, then the Lord will certainly be my God. 22 And this memorial pillar I have set up will become a place for worshiping God, and I will present to God a tenth of everything he gives me."

Commit to doing it God's way.

  • You have to decide if you are going to do money the world's way or God's way. If you are going to do it God's way, you have to make some life decisions.

Become a tither.

  • If you believe it all belongs to God and He only wants 10 percent, why would you withhold that from Him?

Commit to generosity.

  • This is a life focused on others.

Die to self.

  • God is now the lead partner in the relationship. You follow His vision.
