1 Peter 2:2-3 (NLT) - 2 Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, 3 now that you have had a taste of the Lord's kindness.

2 Peter 1:3-9 (NIV) - 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

Add to your faith:

1. Add GOODNESS.

  • Fulfill what you were created to fulfill. When a land produced a huge harvest, it was given the Greek word that is pronounced "ar-et-ay." When fish swim, they do this. When birds fly, they do this.
  • Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) - For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

2. Add KNOWLEDGE.

  • 2 Peter 3:17-18 (NLT) - 17 You already know these things, dear friends. So be on guard; then you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing. 18 Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.
  • Knowledge requires a source and a pursuit.
    • The source is God's Word, His Spirit, and teaching.
    • The pursuit is your responsibility.
  • Grow in your knowledge of God and your discernment of right and wrong.

3. Add SELF-CONTROL.

  • Self-control is the ability to tell yourself no!
  • Proverbs 25:28 (NLT) - A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.

4. Add PERSEVERANCE.

  • Believers go through trials, and this:
    • Brings glory to God
    • Produces character in us
    • Will not last forever
  • Romans 5:3-4 (NLT) - 3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
  • Ephesians 6:13 (NLT) - Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.

5. Add GODLINESS.

  • A growing honor and respect for God
    • Growing in godliness is to grow in your reverence and fear of Him.
  • A godly orientation
    • I BELIEVE God.
    • I OBEY God.
    • I RELY on God.
    • I TALK to God.
    • I am GOD CONSCIOUS.

6. Add BROTHERLY LOVE.

  • Galatians 6:10 (NLT) - Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone-especially to those in the family of faith.

7. Add LOVE.

  • John 3:16 (NLT) - For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
  • It starts with faith and ends with love. This is the Christian journey: to become like God.
