Possessing the Promise

Five steps to possessing the promise:

1. STEP OUT

Genesis 12:4, 6-7 NLT: "So Abram departed as the LORD had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran... .Abram traveled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp beside the oak of Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by Canaanites. Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, 'I will give this land to your descendants.' And Abram built an altar there and dedicated it to the LORD, who had appeared to him."

On the other side of departure, there is a promise.

2. SEPARATE FROM LOT

  • God told Abram to leave his father's family, but he didn't entirely obey. He brought his nephew Lot with him. Some of us get saved but bring relationships with us that are holding us back from what God has for us.
  • GOD CARES ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIPS!
  • Genesis 13:9 NLT: "The whole countryside is open to you. Take your choice of any section of the land you want, and we will separate. If you want the land to the left, then I'll take the land on the right. If you prefer the land on the right, then I'll go to the left."
  • Genesis 13:14-17 NLT: "After Lot had gone, the LORD said to Abram, 'Look as far as you can see in every direction—north and south, east and west. I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession. And I will give you so many descendants that, like the dust of the earth, they cannot be counted! Go and walk through the land in every direction, for I am giving it to you.'"

3. SEE THE STARS

  • Genesis 15:4-6 NLT: "Then the LORD said to him, 'No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.' Then the LORD took Abram outside and said to him, 'Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That's how many descendants you will have!' And Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith."
  • Some people have left the world, separated from Lot, but are still thinking small.
  • God wants your faith to be much bigger than it is right now. He wants to enlarge your expectation!
  • ENLARGE YOUR EXPECTATION!

4. SANCTIFY YOURSELF

  • Genesis 17:1-2, 5-6, 10 NLT: "When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, 'I am El-Shaddai—"God Almighty." Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life. I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants... . What's more, I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham, for you will be the father of many nations. I will make you extremely fruitful. Your descendants will become many nations, and kings will be among them! ... This is the covenant that you and your descendants must keep: Each male among you must be circumcised.'"
  • Separate from the flesh.
  • Sanctify your household.

5. SURRENDER EVERYTHING TO ME

  • Genesis 22:2-3 NLT: "'Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.' The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about."
