Luke 4:38–44 (NLT) - 38 After leaving the synagogue that day, Jesus went to Simon’s home, where he found Simon’s mother-in-law very sick with a high fever. “Please heal her,” everyone begged. 39 Standing at her bedside, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and prepared a meal for them. 40 As the sun went down that evening, people throughout the village brought sick family members to Jesus. No matter what their diseases were, the touch of his hand healed every one. 41 Many were possessed by demons; and the demons came out at his command, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But because they knew he was the Messiah, he rebuked them and refused to let them speak. 42 Early the next morning Jesus went out to an isolated place. The crowds searched everywhere for him, and when they finally found him, they begged him not to leave them. 43 But he replied, “I must preach the Good News of the Kingdom of God in other towns, too, because that is why I was sent.” 44 So he continued to travel around, preaching in synagogues throughout Judea.

 Four mindsets that provoke progress:

1. A life is on the line.

  1. Nothing will make you move like realizing someone’s life is on the line!
  2. Jude 23 (NLT) — 23 Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.
  3. Paul
    1. “I make the Jew jealous so that I might save some.” - Romans 11
    2. “I have become all things to all people that I might save some.” - 1 Corinthians 9

“I am a slave to all people that I might bring some to Christ.” - 1 Corinthians 9

2. A fight is all around me.

  1. Paul recognized he was in a spiritual battle.
    1. 2 Corinthians 10:3–4 (NLT) — 3 We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. 4 We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.
  2. It’s not just the devil we are fighting, we compete with culture.

3. A deadline is in front of me.

  1. John 9:4 (NLT) — 4 We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work.
  2. Ephesians 5:16 (NLT) — 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.

4. A large prize awaits me.

  1. When there is a prize, people do crazy things.
  2. 1 Corinthians 9:23–24 (NLT) — 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings. 24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!
