Psalm 107:1–2 NLT, emphasis added: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.”

Your old status: Guilty of sin
Your new status: Justified

Romans 3:23–24 NLT: “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.”

Your old status: Filled with shame
Your new status: The righteousness of God

Genesis 3:7–8 NLT: “At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.”

Your old status: Total failure
Your new status: More than a conqueror

John 4:16–19 NLT: “Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her. “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied. Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband—for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!” “Sir,” the woman said, “you must be a prophet.”

Your old status: A prisoner to sin
Your new status: Free indeed

Romans 7:23–25 NLT: “But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Your old status: Crushed with debt
Your new status: Paid in full

Matthew 18:24–27 NLT: “In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. He couldn’t pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt. But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.’ Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt.”

Your old status: Lost in darkness
Your new status: Living in the light

Isaiah 9:2 NLT: “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.”

Your old status: Destined for hell
Your new status: Headed to heaven

Romans 6:23 NLT: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

How do rescued people respond?

1. Rescued people will worship.

  • Worship is a response to God. The greater your revelation of being rescued, the greater your worship.

2. Rescued people will talk about it.

  • John 4:28–29 NLT: “The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, ‘Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?’”

3. Rescued people will rescue others.

  • Jude 23 NLT: “Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.”
