1. Angels are MESSENGERS.

The Hebrew word for angel is mal'ak.

The Greek word for angel is angelos.

It means "messenger" or "ambassador of God."

Luke 1:19–20 ESV: "I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news."

2. Angels are MINISTERS.

Hebrews 1:14 ESV: "Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?"

Mark 1:13 ESV: "And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him."

Luke 22:43 ESV: "And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him."

3. Angels are PROVIDERS.

1 Kings 19:5–6 ESV: "And he [Elijah] lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, ‘Arise and eat.’ And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again."

4. Angels are WATCHERS.

Exodus 25:22 ESV: "There I will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel."

Genesis 19:1 ESV: "The two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom."

5. Angels are GUARDIANS.

Psalms 91:11–13 ESV: "For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot."

Daniel 6:22 ESV: "My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths."

6. Angels are WARRIORS.

One angel struck down 185,000 Assyrians in one night (Isaiah 37:36). The death angel killed the firstborn of every family and herd in Egypt on the night of the Passover.

7. Angels are WORSHIPERS.

Revelation 5 shows that worship in heaven is always increasing.

• The first song is sung by the four living creatures.
• The second song is sung by the 24 elders.
• The third song is sung by the four living creatures and * the 24 elders together.
• The fourth song is sung by the four living creatures and the 24 elders, and thousands upon thousands of angels join in.
• The last song is sung by every living thing that has breath on heaven and earth, under the earth, and in the sea.
