Key verses:

Psalm 92:10 NKJV-"I have been anointed with fresh oil."
Verses 13–14 ESV-"They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green."

Isaiah 11:2 (paraphrased; see ESV)-"The Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of wisdom, the Spirit of understanding, the Spirit of counsel, the Spirit of might, the Spirit of knowledge, and the Spirit of the fear of the Lord."

1. The Spirit of the Lord: INTIMACY

  • The Spirit of Jesus
  • "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom" (2 Corinthians 3:17 ESV).

2. The Spirit of wisdom: ORDER

  • The Spirit of wisdom is order. Order and wisdom go together.
  • In Acts, the Lord appointed deacons who were full of the Spirit and wisdom.

3. The Spirit of understanding: CLARITY

  • Daniel 10:12 ESV-"Then he said to me, ‘Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to UNDERSTAND and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words.’"
  • Understanding is CLARITY. The men of Issachar had "understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do" (1 Chronicles 12:32 ESV).

4. The Spirit of counsel: DECISIONS

  • Counsel has to do with decisions. Joshua did not ask counsel of the Lord. His lack of counsel caused a problem for Israel for over 300 years. (See Joshua 9.)
  • Counsel is the ability to make ONE GOOD DECISION.

5. The Spirit of might: AUTHORITY

  • The Holy Spirit often came upon a person who was weak, discouraged, and confused and gave them authority.

6. The Spirit of knowledge: REVELATION

  • Knowledge is "what you don’t know." Daniel did not know what Nebuchadnezzar had dreamed. He asked for knowledge, and God told him the dream and the interpretation.
  • Bezalel was given the task to build the tabernacle and was filled with the Spirit of knowledge.

7. Fear of the Lord: INTEGRITY

  • Integrity is wholeness, innocence, purity, example.
  • Acts 5-Ananias was lying to the Holy Spirit. His judgment caused the fear of the Lord to come upon the church.
