Matthew 4:8-10 (NLT) — 8 Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 "I will give it all to you," he said, "if you will kneel down and worship me." 10 "Get out of here, Satan," Jesus told him. "For the Scriptures say, 'You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"

Deuteronomy 6:13-14 (NASB) — 13 You shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name. 14 You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you.

1 Kings 18:21 (NASB) — Elijah came near to all the people and said, "How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people did not answer him a word.

1. The ELEMENTS of worship

  • Who gets the KISS: Deuteronomy 6:5 (NLT) — And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
  • Who gets the SACRIFICE: 1 Chronicles 16:29 (NLT) — Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his presence. Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor.
  • Who gets the LIFT: Psalm 107:1-2 (NLT) — 1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. 2 Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.
  • Who gets the PRAISE: Psalm 105:2-3 (NLT) — 2 Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. 3 Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the Lord.
  • Who gets the WALK: Deuteronomy 6:13-14 (NASB) — 13 You shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name. 14 You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you.

2. The DIRECTION of worship

  • Worship can go in three directions.
  • Worship of self
  • Worship of idols
  • Worship of God

3. The DAILY of worship

  • The morning and evening sacrifice
  • Daniel worshiped at his window three times a day.
  • David praised seven times a day.
  • Practical application
    • Bow: You have my reverence, service, obedience.
    • Kiss: You have my affection, loyalty.
    • Lift: You have my sacrifice, surrender, credit, dependence.
    • Say: You have my gratitude, praise.
    • Live: I will follow Your way.
