Matthew 7:24–27 (NLT) — 24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

1. The Folly of Sand

  1. Ignorant and Deceived
  2. Unformed and Untrained
  3. Unsancitified and Mediocre
    1. John 17:17 (NKJV) — 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
    2. Ephesians 5:25–26 (NKJV) — 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
  4. Easily defeated

2. The Wisdom of Stone

  1. Our nourishment
    1. Matthew 4:3–4 (NKJV) — 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
    2. The Israelites had to learn to wait, be satisfied, lean on, the Word of God. Jesus is here sitting in the wilderness, content with the Word of God.
  2. Our discipleship
  3. Our path
    1. Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105, NLT)
    2. God uses His Word to shape your path, the decisions you make.

3. How to build on stone

  1. The power of feeding daily
  2. The power of forming a habit
  3. The power of others
  4. The power of sharing
