The Giant

2 Corinthians 10:14, KJV - “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”
The voice of fear (Goliath):
“The odds are against you.”
- What is a “giant”? It is anything that strikes fear and hopelessness in you, that convinces you that you have no hope of defeating it.
- Acts 27:20 - “All hope of our being saved was at last abandoned.”
- 2 Timothy 1:7 - ”For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (NKJV).
The voice of guilt (Eliab):
“You are a hypocrite.”
- Eliab, David’s oldest brother, belittled David. He said, “Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle” (v. 28).
- Satan is the “accuser of the brethren”: “For the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before God” (Revelation 12:2).
- Job had three “comforters” who made it their business to remind him that somewhere down in his heart was sin.
- The “breastplate of righteousness” is part of our armor. You cannot live in the past. You cannot fight looking behind you.
- “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).
The voice of reason (Saul):
“You need my armor.”
- Saul had lost the Spirit of God. He could no longer hear the voice of God so he turned to “reason.”
- Your weapons are “mighty through God”: the Word of God, the blood of Jesus, the shield of faith.
- “Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day…” (Ephesians 6:13, ESV).
The voice of faith (David):
“The battle is the Lord’s” (v. 47).
- Faith has a declaration, a voice that brings victory. David had three declarations as he ran out to meet Goliath:
- “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied.”
- You need to declare to your giant, “My weapons are more powerful than your weapons.”
- “This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head.”
- You need to declare, “TODAY, I have the victory. TODAY is the day of salvation. TODAY is the turning point in my battle, my business, my body, my marriage, my family.”
- “The battle is the Lord’s.”
- You need to open your mouth and declare, “The battle is the Lord’s. I will not run and retreat, but I will stand and fight the enemy. Greater is He that is in me than He that is in the world. Those who are with me are more than those who are with him.”
