1 Chronicles 29:3 (NLT) — 3 “And now, because of my devotion to the Temple of my God, I am giving all of my own private treasures of gold and silver to help in the construction. This is in addition to the building materials I have already collected for his holy Temple. 5 and for the other gold and silver work to be done by the craftsmen. Now then, who will follow my example and give offerings to the LORD today?” 6 Then the family leaders, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the generals and captains of the army, and the king’s administrative officers all gave willingly. The people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD, and King David was filled with joy. 11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. 12 Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength. 14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us! 15 We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace. 17 I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously.

A Kingdom Builders Devotion

  • “Because, I have BOUND my heart.
    • Hebrew word “Ha-Shock”
    • “I have attached my heart.”
    • “My heart is woven into the House of God.”
    • “I have intentionally bound my affection here.”
  • The language is about the heart and an intentional binding of love.
  • David had a history of being bound to the house of God.
    • Psalm 26:8 (NLT) — 8 I love your sanctuary, LORD, the place where your glorious presence dwells.
    • Psalm 27:4 (NLT) — 4 The one thing I ask of the LORD— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.
    • Psalm 84:1–2 (NLT) — 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies. 2 I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the LORD. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God.
  • His devotion led to PERSONAL sacrifice.
  • His devotion led to a COSTLY sacrifice.

A Kingdom Builders Inspiration

  • David’s question to those he led - “Who will follow my example and give as I have done”
  • David allowed his generosity to inspire others.
  • We need to be willing to ALLOW our giving to inspire others.
    • Matthew 5:16 (NLT) — 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
    • 2 Corinthians 9:2 (NLT) — 2 For I know how eager you are to help, and I have been boasting to the churches in Macedonia that you in Greece were ready to send an offering a year ago. In fact, it was your enthusiasm that stirred up many of the Macedonian believers to begin giving.
  • The people allowed themselves to be inspired.
  • Here are two questions for you:
    • Is your generosity inspirational?
    • Is your heart tender enough to receive inspiration?

A Kingdom Builders Perspective

  • 11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty.
  • All things BELONG to God.
  • All things COME from God.
  • People RETURN things to God.
