We are picking up where He left off!

Mark 1:16–18 NLT: “16 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 17 Jesus called out to them, ‘Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!’ 18 And they left their nets at once and followed him.”

**Matthew 28:18–20 NLT: **“18 Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’

The Jesus way starts and ends with rescuing people.

There are three steps to the relay:

1. Watch

  • Learning His mission
    • Luke 19:9–10 NLT: “9 Jesus responded, ‘Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.’ ”
  • Learning how he loved others
  • Learning His spirit
    • Luke 9:49–50 NLT: “49 John said to Jesus, ‘Master, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons, but we told him to stop because he isn’t in our group.’ 50 But Jesus said, ‘Don’t stop him! Anyone who is not against you is for you.’ ”
    • Luke 9:56 NASB: “ ‘56 For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.’ And they went on to another village.”
    • Matthew 19:13–14 NLT: “13 One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. 14 But Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.’ ”

Receive

  • Receiving authority:
    • Luke 9:1–2 NLT: “1 One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases. 2 Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.”
  • Receiving the mission:
    • John 20:21–22 NLT: “21 Again he said, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.’ 22 Then he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’ ”
  • Receiving His Spirit:
    • Acts 1:8 NLT: “8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Run

  • Matthew 28:18–20 NLT: “18 Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ ”
  • Acts 10:42–43 NLT: “42 And he ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of all—the living and the dead. 43 He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name.”
