Philippians 2:1–11 NASB, emphasis added: “1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. 3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

1. Servanthood is about a perspective SHIFT.

• Servanthood is an approach to life. It is a perspective through which you see the world. We need to begin to see the world through the eyes of servants.
• Jesus teaches the shift: **Luke 22:24–27 NLT: **“24 Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them. 25 Jesus told them, ‘In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called “friends of the people.” 26 But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. 27 Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves.’ ”

2. Servanthood disregards STATUS.

• The world's way says, “The more insignificant you are, the greater your responsibility to serve.”
• The Jesus way says, “The more important you are, the greater your responsibility to serve.”
• Jesus teaches about status: John 13:12–15 NLT: “12 After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, ‘Do you understand what I was doing? 13 You call me “Teacher” and “Lord,” and you are right, because that’s what I am. 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.’ ”

3. Servanthood has a SPOT.

4. Servanthood SATISFIES.

• “Well done, good and faithful SERVANT.”
• “God highly exalted him.”
• “More blessed to give than to receive.”
