Matthew 12:46–50 (NASB95) — 46 While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him. 47 Someone said to Him, “Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You.” 48 But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” 49 And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold My mother and My brothers! 50 For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.”

How to build spiritual family:

1. Spiritual family is built on God-centered conversations.

  • Spiritual conversations can be as uplifting as reading the Bible, prayer, and worship. Make it a part of your discipline to have spiritual conversations with spiritual family.

2. Spiritual family is built on prayer.

  • Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NLT) — 12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
  • Prayer makes a natural relationship a spiritual relationship.
  • Matthew 18:19–20 (NLT) — 19 “I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. 20 For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”

3. Spiritual family is built on transparency and accountability.

  • James 5:16 (NLT) — 16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.

4. Spiritual family is built on faithfulness.

  • Romans 12:15–16 (NLT) — 15 Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with each other.
  • Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV84) — 6 He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Who is your spiritual family?

  • Who do you have spiritual conversations with?
  • Who do you pray with?
  • Who are you accountable to?
  • Who are you there for?
