What Have You Seen?

Isaiah 6:1-8 (NLT) - 1 It was in the year King Uzziah died that I saw the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple. 2 Attending him were mighty seraphim, each having six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 3 They were calling out to each other, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven's Armies! The whole earth is filled with his glory!" 4 Their voices shook the Temple to its foundations, and the entire building was filled with smoke. 5 Then I said, "It's all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven's Armies." 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. 7 He touched my lips with it and said, "See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven." 8 Then I heard the Lord asking, "Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?" I said, "Here I am. Send me."

1. Have you seen THE LORD?

  • Isaiah 6:1-4 (NLT)
  • "In the year King Uzziah died"
    • Bleak outlooks lead us to hopeful "up looks."

The glory of God

  • Seraphim - angels of fire
    • Covering face - humility
    • Covering feet - holiness
    • Flying - readiness
  • They cried, "Holy, holy, holy."
  • The whole earth is filled with His glory.

Seeing God is always different from hearing about Him.

Job 42:5-6 (NLT) - 5 I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. 6 I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.

The proof you've seen the Lord is AWE.

2. Have you seen YOURSELF?

  • Isaiah 6:5-7 (NLT)
  • Godly repentance
    • 2 Corinthians 7:10-11 (NLT) - 10 For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There's no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death. 11 Just see what this godly sorrow produced in you! Such earnestness, such concern to clear yourselves, such indignation, such alarm, such longing to see me, such zeal, and such a readiness to punish wrong. You showed that you have done everything necessary to make things right.

The proof you've seen yourself is REPENTANCE.

3. Have you seen the SACRIFICE?

  • Isaiah 6:6-7 (NLT)

The proof you've seen the sacrifice is GRATITUDE.

4. Have you seen the MISSION?

  • Isaiah 6:8 (NLT)
  • Who will go?
  • Who will speak?
  • Who will volunteer to be used by God?

The proof you've seen the mission is SURRENDER.
