Message Outline

You Are a Witness

Pastor Joel Stockstill
Sunday, Oct 12, 2014

Acts 1:8 - But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and in the ends of the earth.

1. You are witness to:

a. The Event- the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ

  • Question: What did He do?
  • Learning, meditating, and speaking about the event will energize your walk with the Lord and ignite the hearts of the lost.

b. The work of the Holy Spirit

  • Question: What is He doing?
  • How has the Lord changed your life? Is anything different? We need to simply let others know HOW the Lord has worked in our lives. It is the Holy Spirit who CHANGES us.

c. The miracles- Jesus’ ministry of miracles and deliverance

  • Question: What has He done?
  • From written accounts in the Bible to recent miracles that have taken place in our midst, we must never cease to tell of His miracles.

d. The message of life

  • Question: What does He want to do?
  • Jesus came that we might have LIFE! People need to feel the joy and life coming from our walk with the Lord. This will open the door for us to TELL them about the message of life we have found in Jesus.

2. Grow in your witness.

a. Know the Scripture.

It is the Word of God that will sharpen your witness. You do not have to have the whole Bible memorized to witness to others, but as you grow in the Word, your faith will grow and your ability to share the Gospel will increase.

  • 1 Peter 3:15 ESV - but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

b. Be Filled with the Spirit

  • As you pray in the Spirit, your spirit man is built up with faith and becomes sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

c. Pray for boldness.

  • Acts 4:29 - And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word.

d. Practice what you preach!

Living a life of compromise will sabotage your witness. Be sure to live a life of example to all. This will back your witness with INTEGRITY.

3. Motivation to witness:

a. Thankfulness

Out of a heart of overflowing gratitude, we respond by telling others the Good News.

b. Obedience to Christ

We were commanded by the Lord Jesus to “preach the Gospel to everyone.” See Mark 16:15

c. Burden for the lost

We need to ask the Lord to put a supernatural burden in our hearts that compels us to win the lost. Reaching the lost is the central mission and theme of the Gospel.
