Book: Psalms 40:6-8: quoted of Jesus in Hebrews 10:5
- “In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required. Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me: I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”
- “You have given Me an OPEN EAR.” —You obey first with your EAR. “IF you will hear my voice and harden not your heart.”
- “Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.” Not a dead sacrifice but a “living sacrifice” is what God is after (Romans 12:1). GOD DOESN’T WANT YOUR GIFT, HE WANTS YOUR LIFE.
- “Behold, I come. In the scroll of the book it is written of me.” God’s WILL is God’s WORD.
- “I delight to do your will, O my God. Your law is within my heart.”
- Jesus was not serving out of just DUTY or even DESIRE. He was serving out of sheer DELIGHT, the “thrill of His will.”
“I delight to DO YOUR will.”—“My greatest thrill is to do your will.”
- Find His will in His Word.
- “And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers (OFFICES), then miracles, then gifts of healing (GIFTS), helping, administrating (FUNCTIONS), and various kinds of tongues.”
- OFFICES—apostles, prophets, teachers.
- GIFTS—miracles, gifts of healing, various kinds of tongues.
- FUNCTIONS—helping, administrating.
- “Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work” (Jn. 4: 34).
- WHAT IS THE WILL OF GOD? When WE delight in His delight. He delights in three major things:
- To win the lost.
- To heal the sick.
- To liberate the captives.
- Prayer for God to “refill the thrill.”
- “Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” (Jn. 20: 21-22)
- PRAISE IN THE SPIRIT—“Be being filled with the Spirit, speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” (Eph. 5:18)
- PRAY IN THE SPIRIT—“praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.”
