Bgroup Lesson Jun 30
Introduction: As believers we are on a journey to become more and more like Christ. Along our journey, we encounter obstacles, barriers, and patterns that can keep us from total transformation if not challenged and surrendered to Christ. Today, we will discuss insecurity. It’s an issue everyone faces and must be dealt with so we realize our full potential.
Key Scripture: 2 Samuel 23:1-2
These are the last words of David: “David, the son of Jesse, speaks - David, the man who was raised up so high, David, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, David, the sweet psalmist of Israel. The Spirit of the Lord speaks through me, his words are upon my tongue.”
Paul Johansson said, “A certain measure of insecurity is with us for life. It has many faces and changes as we age. But humbling ourselves and complete trust in God helps us through and keeps us productive.”
Unresolved insecurities will keep us from reaching our full potential. Let’s look at 4 areas David mentioned in our scripture today that must be addressed for us to walk in healing from insecurity.
David, the son of Jesse…
Like many of us, David had family issues. Though the scriptures don’t give us all the details we sense there may have been some unresolved issues between David and his father Jesse. David was the one sent to the field to watch the sheep in isolation. In fact, when Samuel came to select one of Jesse‘s sons to be king, David was not even called in from the field.
We can’t allow family issues or insecurities about our origin keep us from stepping into all God has for us.
Discussion Questions: Are you secure in your origin story? Are there relationships in your family that cause you to be insecure? Have you sought the Lord to heal that part of your life?
David, who was raised up so high…
David realized that his favor and promotion came from the hand of the Lord. He didn’t try to climb the corporate ladder, but rather yielded to the plan of God for his life.
Discussion Questions: Have there been times where you felt that God forgot about you? Have you been passed up for promotion and felt it was punishment from God rather than His protection? Have you surrendered your life to the Lord and his perfect timing? If not, settle that today, so you can experience the peace of God.
David, the man anointed by God…
We all have an assignment from God. We have each been formed and fashioned with unique strengths and skill sets that God desires to use for his glory. We can’t compare ourselves or our assignments to those around us. We must be secure in what God has called us to do!
Discussion Questions: Do you compare yourself or your assignment to others around you? Do you think your assignment is less important than someone else’s? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you be confident in the assignment he has given you to do.
David, the sweet psalmist of Israel…
David was known as many things in his life. A son, brother, friend, husband, and King. He was a mighty warrior who slayed the giant Goliath. However, David’s identity was not found in what he did but who he was. He was a worshiper! We are all worshipers.
Discussion Questions: Do you struggle with your identity? Have you ever wondered who you are and what you were made for? Have you fallen for the lie that what you do is who you are? Find scriptures you can declare over yourself to reinforce your God-given identity.
We all face insecurity, and we must all be healed of insecurity! Allow the Holy Spirit to continue to highlight areas of your origin story, your position, your assignment, and your identity that are plagued by insecurity. Jesus desires to bring total healing to your life and set you free from all insecurity!
