Bgroup Lesson May 26
Big Idea: A Tsunami is an underwater wave generated by an earthquake or landslide. The wave can travel at speeds of up to 500 mph, jet speed. A tsunami is “unstoppable.” In the book of Acts, we read of the power of the Word of God. On the day of Pentecost, Peter quoted Joel 2:28-32 and 3,000 people were saved and baptized. The power of the Church, the nuclear fuel in the submarine, is God’s Holy, Eternal, Unchangeable, Unstoppable WORD.
Key Scriptures:
Hebrews 10:22 (ESV) Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
2 Corinthians 1:18-20 (ESV) As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
Hebrews 10:22 “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for HE WHO PROMISED IS FAITHFUL.”
God cannot lie. It is impossible for God to lie. When He makes a promise, it is intended to be kept. You can trust Him, His Word cannot fail.
2 Corinthians 1:18-20 “As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.”
God makes a promise, Christ is the “Yes.” We agree and say, “Amen.”
Isaiah 55:11 “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
3 Things From The Word
Philip encountered the Ethiopian Eunuch alongside a road, reading through the Scripture. He had a hunger to know Jesus, the one he was reading about. We see in Acts 8:35, “Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.” Salvation comes through the Word! In Acts 10:44 we see an instance where the Holy Spirit came as Peter was preaching the Word. There’s power in the Word!
Discussion Questions: Think back to when you first got saved. How was the Word of God part of that moment? What was one of the first scriptures you remember hearing or learning that made you aware of 1) your sin, 2) your need for a savior, 3) the love of God for you and the way He made for you through the Cross?
Healing from sickness and disease comes through faith and the Word of God. Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Sick people need to feed their faith. We do this by feasting on the Word of God. Listen to sermons on healing. When ministers teach and preach the Word about healing, God confirms His Word with signs and wonders. Read and meditate on Scriptures that tell of His healing power in the lives of others. It will build your faith!
Acts 14:3 “So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.”
Acts 14:8 “Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was crippled from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul speaking. And Paul, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be made well, said in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he sprang up and began walking.”
Psalm 107:20 “He sent His Word and healed them.”
Discussion Questions: What is something you need healing for right now? What Scriptures are you declaring over yourself daily to build your faith? Your healing has already been paid for on the Cross, you just have to receive it by faith.
The WORD has power over demon spirits. Satan and all demonic powers were defeated by Christ at the resurrection. The only power demons have is the “power of suggestion.” We must know our authority in Christ. We see an account of a demon spirit conversing with seven sons of Sceva. They were trying to cast out the spirit without a relationship with Christ or knowing their authority in Him. Acts 19:15 “But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?”
A few verses later we see the beginnings of revival in that region. Acts 19:19 “And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the WORD OF THE LORD continued to increase and PREVAIL MIGHTILY.”
When the WORD is preached, deliverance comes. Radical transformation takes place in the hearts of people with tangible, measurable fruit. The books they destroyed would’ve been worth $8.6 MILLION dollars in today’s currency. They burned them, removed them and all fetishes, and objects of witchcraft or the occult from their homes. When they saw how others were healed and delivered so miraculously, it overwhelmed them with conviction and they removed every trace of evil!
Discussion Questions: Do you know who you are in Christ? Is there a battle you’re facing right now that you need to take authority over and remind the enemy he’s defeated? Is there an area of your life where you desperately need deliverance? Maybe a habit or addiction you can’t seem to shake? Maybe a wrong mindset has you feeling bound, but you desire to be free? Today, Jesus can set you FREE! Surrender to Him and allow His transforming power to break every chain in your life!
God’s Word is unstoppable! It is the very source of salvation, healing, and deliverance. Whatever you need can be found in the Word. It is a trustworthy and firm foundation to build your life upon. Before you look to friends for advice or books for guidance, look to the Word of God. He will reveal Himself to you and give you all the wisdom and direction you need, making you unstoppable in your faith!
