Bgroup Lesson Apr 13
Big Idea: Miracles, supernatural interruptions or interventions in the natural flow of life. A miracle is simply when God gets involved in the situations of our lives. But does the God of the universe, creator and King of Kings really get involved in the situations and circumstances of our lives? The answer is a resounding YES! But sometimes the miracle isn’t immediate. Sometimes we experience a season of waiting. Today, let’s talk about what we should do while we’re waiting for a miracle!
John 11:3-7 (NLT) - So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, “Lord, your dear friend is very sick.” But when Jesus heard about it he said, “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.” So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days. Finally, he said to his disciples, “Let’s go back to Judea.”
John 11:20–26 (NLT) When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house. Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.” Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.” “Yes,” Martha said, “he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day.” Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
You have to remember miracles are often a fight! Most of the miracles Jesus did were in direct opposition to a spiritual force. Jesus cast out demons and broke Satan's power. You have to arm yourself for a fight! Stop naturalizing everything and understand you have an adversary.
Luke 13:10-13;16 (ESV) Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.” And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God. And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?” Ephesians 6:12 (NLT) For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Offense becomes a big struggle in the world of believing for a miracle. We can get offended that God let something happen or that we didn’t get an instant response. We can even get offended that it isn’t how we thought it would be.
Matthew 15:25-28 (ESV) But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” And he answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.
We become offended when:
We all know what it’s like to let our attitude get bad while we’re waiting on something.
While God is working in your situation, let Him also work in your character!
Attitudes to focus on while you are waiting:
Let the Word of God be your light and source of strength. Let it be a firm and trustworthy foundation for your life. If you don’t know what the Word says, you will be misled with false doctrine. Prioritize reading your Bible daily. Spend time meditating on the words you’ve read and let it impact your life. Decide to make the Word the most important voice in your life! Jesus himself said, “man does not live by bread alone, but every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God”
John 11:26 (NLT) “Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?” John 15:7 (NLT) “But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!”
Faith thrives in community! Waiting gets heavier in isolation. When you’re surrounded by faithful people, your hope stays lifted. Jesus didn’t do miracles in isolation. He brought Peter, James, and John with Him. Even in His final hour in Gethsemane, He asked His friends to pray with Him. Faith is contagious, but so is discouragement. Choose your company wisely while you wait. Don’t wait alone! Get into a small group, text a prayer partner, or gather your family—faith multiplies in fellowship.
Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 “Two are better than one… If either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion.”
Find people who will:
Waiting isn’t easy but there are tools we can use to wait the right way! We can rest and find encouragement knowing that ALL WHO BELIEVE will see the glory of God. Your miracle is on its way!
