Bgroup Lesson Nov 10
Key Scripture:
Isaiah 55:10-11: “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”
The Big Idea: Seeds are powerful because they’re the only force producing NEW LIFE in our universe. In the scripture above, God describes his word as seed that always produces fruit. God’s word creates new life in those who receive it, and because we are made in his image, our words also have the power to create or destroy. When our words align with God’s, we can speak into all life’s circumstances with the authority of Jesus and speak life into everyone around us.
In Genesis 1, we see that God created everything at his WORD. His words were the creative force in the universe. Like a seed from a plant, every word he speaks contains his DNA. When received into the soil of our hearts, God’s word has the potential to change everything about us to reflect him.
How do we receive God’s word?
Discussion Question: How do you do with these four keys to receiving God’s word?
Jesus himself said “from the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). If God’s word is buried in our hearts like seed, it will be ready to sprout in the right situation when we need it. Consider the following biblical situations where God’s word changed a situation:
TEMPTATION: When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert, he responded each time by quoting scripture - “It is written…”, and the devil fled.
TRIAL: When the Roman centurion’s servant was sick, he told Jesus “Just say the word and my servant will be healed,” and Jesus healed him instantly.
OPPORTUNITY TO BE USED BY GOD: When Peter and John came across a lame man, they were full of the Holy Spirit and spoke “In the name of Jesus, get up and walk,” and the man was healed AND saved.
Discussion Question: Share a time where you’ve faced temptation, trial, or an opportunity to be used by the Lord. How did God’s word help you?
