Bgroup Lesson Feb 16
Big Idea: Many of us are in a season of singleness. Some have never been married and are content with their current station in life. Others are longing to be married and begin a family. Then others find themselves navigating the waters of being single again through loss or the disappointment of failed relationships. Whatever season you find yourself in, let’s look at the Word for some tips and encouragement to help us live saved and single!
Key Scriptures:
Psalm 37:3-5 - Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.
Romans 12:2 - Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Psalm 27:13-14 Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
Singleness is a season not a sentence! Embrace the season you’re in, because seasons come and seasons go. It’s a chance for you to devote yourself to education or beginning your career.
Don’t miss the opportunity to travel, save money, and check some things off your bucket list before you get married. Don’t wait to get married to begin living! Another important thing to do in your season of singleness is to learn how to love yourself. Use your time to develop yourself and be the very best version of yourself for your own happiness and future spouse! There’s no reason to get anxious or in a hurry. When we trust in the Lord we experience supernatural peace!
Discussion Questions: What’s something you’re doing in this season to enjoy it? What goals are you working towards to help you prepare for marriage? Have you allowed your peace to be robbed in the season of waiting? If so, put your trust in the Lord afresh and let His peace flood your heart!
Before we begin pursuing someone or starting a relationship, we must allow time for our mind to be renewed by the Word of God. Romans 12:2 tells us that we must let God transform us into a new person, by changing the way we think. When our mind is renewed we can learn to know God’s will for us, which is good and pleasing and perfect. You will attract who you are, so allow the Lord to transform you first. We must also understand that we are worth the wait! Don’t just settle for someone because you feel desperate or time is getting away from you. Involve others in the dating process! Get your pastors, parents, & friends involved so you have godly counsel to help you along the way. And finally, remember that the only perfect one is JESUS! Don’t let unrealistic expectations slow you down or affect your journey to love.
Discussion Questions: What are some of the mindsets of culture regarding relationships that need to be transformed in us through the Word of God? Are there some attitudes or attributes you know you need to work on before you begin a relationship? If so, what are they and how will you practically work on them? What are some of the items on your “wish list”? Are there any unrealistic expectations that you need to surrender to the Lord? Have you introduced your significant other to your pastors, parents, and friends for input? If not, why?
When you’re dating and getting to know someone after a previous relationship it’s important to do things the right way. Holiness still matters! Just because you have been through the process before doesn’t mean you get to skip some steps or compromise in any way. Be sure that you have healed and done the groundwork in your heart to ensure you begin a new relationship healthy and whole!
Discussion Questions: Have you been able to seek Christian counseling or read books to help you heal after your last relationship? What boundaries can you set to ensure that Christ and holiness stay at the center of your future relationships?
God wants the best for us in every season of our lives! Let’s trust in the Lord and experience His abundant peace. Let’s delight ourselves in His timing and His presence knowing that as we commit ourselves to Him and His guidelines for relationships, we know He will lead us and help us to realize the desires of our hearts!
