5 Holy Habits for Nights of Prayer

Bgroup Lesson Part 1 of 9

Day #1: Prayer -

Matthew 7:7: Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

  • This is the best definition of prayer, it's a conversation with God.
    • It's asking: asking God to move in your school, family, your life. Asking him to come and move
    • It's seeking: It's chasing after God and not the world. It’s seeking his word and wisdom for his guidance and for purity.
    • It's knocking: it's letting your faith not be shaken and standing on the foundation that God will do what he said he will do. It's when you keep on seeking and asking even when everyone else thinks you shouldn’t. It's walking with Jesus when no one else is doing it. Knocking is you being Bold in your faith that you will pray without ceasing.

“Prayer is our communion with God. Asking, seeking, and knocking builds our relationship with Him.

Day #2: Fasting -

Matthew 6:16-18: “And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. 17 But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. 18Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”

  • Fasting is more than skipping meal or starving yourself. That’s just called a diet, Its not doing it so you brag to everyone about it and make yourself look holy. Fasting is when you sacrifice something that is important to you for a time period and replacing that time to spend it with God.
  • Fasting is training and building you to say no to your flesh and being fully focused on God. It grows your faith and dependance on what God has said. It helps to hear God more clearly in your prayer time. Fasting is the secret key factor that will boost your relationship with God. The funny thing is that its not even a secret, its something everyone has to and needs to do for the sake of our relationship with God.

Challenge

  •  You can fast video games, food, social media, and technology all together. I encourage you to fast something this week and spend that time you would use on the thing you are fasting and spend it with God and watch what he can do.

We don’t fast to get something out of it. We fast to limit distractions so we can grow closer to God.

Day #3: Reading your Bible -

2 Timothy 3:16-17:  “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

  • Reading God’s word helps us to know his voice. When we read the bible(God's word) we understand his heart and what he wants to teach us, show us, correct us in. You can’t have a relationship with God without reading God’s word. It's so important and fundamental to our walk with Jesus in how it guides and directs us in what he has called us his people and how we should live.

“God’s word is a tool kit to connect with Him. It shows us how to live out the gospel in our daily lives”

Reading the Bible changes everything.

The Word of God is the will of God. When you know His word, you know His will!

Day #4: Reflection -

Proverbs 27:19:As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.”

  • This scripture comes from a passage of scripture written by Solomon in talking about good stewardship. Reflection is letting prayer and God’s word settle in your spirit. It's meditating and letting it get planted in your spirit. When we sit and reflect on God's word and let it truly change/teach us that is when we truly see fruit.
  • Challenge -  Don’t just skim through God’s word or just quickly say a few prayers. Sit and reflect and meditate on what God is wanting to teach and grow you in.

Don’t forget all that God has done in us and for us. As we see our faults, we see where we are in need of God.

Day #5: Share -

‭‭Acts 4‬:‭29‬-‭31‬ ”And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great BOLDNESS in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with BOLDNESS.“

  • Now it's time to share with your peers the good news of Jesus Christ. A walk with Jesus is not something that you keep to yourself and don’t let anyone know.
  • It should be seen just by the way you live. People should know that you have a relationship with Jesus by the way you live and carry yourself.
  • We need to tell everyone about Jesus and what he did for them, so that they can spend eternity with Jesus in heaven and not spend it in hell.
  • It's the purpose God has placed for everyone, we are to go and tell. Imagine what life would be like if no one had told you about Jesus, all he had done and all he wants to do in and through your life. It would be a life you would not want to live.
  • God wants to use you, so why try to stop him from using you in a miraculous way?

Imagine what life would be like if no one had told you about Jesus. God wants to use you to reach others. Jesus spoke, worked, and loved BOLDLY! Let’s be BOLD with our faith!
