A Body That Works

Bgroup Lesson Part 6 of 12

How many of us desire a body that works? Isn’t it crazy how the entire body could be functioning properly but we recognize the parts that are not working as they should? We as believers each play a significant role in the body of Christ. When our role is missing, it is felt by the entire body.

Lets look to see what Paul told the church of Corinth about our individual part in the body.

Key Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:3-7

The Father does the work, the Son serves, and the Holy Spirit gives the gifts. Isn’t it amazing that the Lord desires for us to play a role in this as well? Paul says in verse 7 that a spiritual gift is given to EACH of us. This means that in the body of Christ, we each have a significant role. Let’s see how we can play our part in the body of Christ.

3 Ways the Body Works:

1. Learn your gift.

The gifts are always meant to encourage, equip and build the body of Christ. There are different gifts but the same Spirit is the source of them all. Let's discover our gift. Here is a list of the gifts mentioned.

  • Words of Wisdom
  • Words of Knowledge
  • Gifts of Faith
  • Gifts of Healing
  • Gift of Miracles
  • Gift of Prophecy
  • Discerning of Spirits
  • Speaking in Tongues
  • Interpretation of Tongues

Question: When was the moment you discovered your Spiritual gift? What are ways we can help others discover their spiritual gift?

2. Use your gift.

Once we discover what our spiritual gift is, then we move into operating in our gift. Like anything it will take time for you to get comfortable but the encouragement here is to step out in faith and begin to use your gift to bless others.

Question: Can you share a moment when you stepped out in faith to use your spiritual gift? How are you stewarding the gift that you've been given?

3. Desire more gifts.

Paul says that we should desire more gifts but we must realize that the Holy Spirit is the one who distributes the gifts. All of the gifts are established to encourage, equip and build up the body of Christ.

Question: Are we asking the Holy Spirit for more gifts to flow through our life to bless others?

Conclusion

We each have a significant role to play and it's a privilege to receive spiritual gifts from the Lord. Let's be a people who learn our gift, use our gift and desire more gifts all with the purpose to encourage, equip and build up the body of Christ.
