Under Pressure

B-Group Lesson Part 9 of 10

Big Idea: Pressure is a part of life. We all will face difficult seasons and situations that have the potential to consume us. Jesus was the greatest example of someone who faced not only suffering but immense pressure. He suffered the pressure of responsibility, rejection and even obedience while in the garden of Gethsemane; yet, He was our greatest example of pressure endured.

Key Scriptures:

  • Luke 22: 39-44
  • Mark 14:32-36

Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane represents humanity's desire to escape discomfort and pressure.

1. Jesus was under pressure: All of humanity was relying on Jesus to endure the great suffering of the cross. Without his obedience, we would not have had a chance.

Question: Can you remember a time when the weight of responsibility felt too great to hold? How did you respond to the pressure?

2. Jesus dealt with the pressure: Instead of being consumed by the it, Jesus chose to…

  • Gather with others
  • Serve others
  • Worship the Father
  • Pray fervently
  • Surrender his life
  • Trust God’s plan

Question: When under pressure, how often do you tend to abandon one if not all of the above?

3. Jesus endured under pressure: That is cause for celebration! This is the hope we have. If He endured, so can we!

Action Steps: As we go into this Easter week, we have the great joy of celebrating the resurrection of our King! He endured the cross so that you and I could have eternal life. This week, take some time to pray and invite someone to church! We all know a neighbor, friend or loved one who is crushing under pressure. Jesus is the answer!
